newsletter 011 – 13/07/2011

preamble

Its been a while since I last sent out a newsletter but its nevertheless been an exciting time and we’ve got lots of things to look forward to! We had a great time playing at Band on the Wall last month – thanks to all who came – and I’m working on the recording at the moment, so keep your ear to all the usual channels to be the first to find out when you can hear it…

I also have some leftover posters from the Band on the Wall gig that you can have, FREE! Although the poster itself is free to you, currently neither poster tubes or the Royal Mail are as cheap unfortunately so for me to post you one all you need pay is £3 – bargain. Just send it as a donation via the big yellow button on the right of our website, then send me an email with your address and a poster will wing its way to you quick smart.

london town

We’re hitting London over the next few months, and hitting hard… First up we’re back at Ronnie Scott’s on Wednesday 3rd August in a double bill with the amazing Kairos 4tet during Ronnie’s annual Brit Jazz Week, celebrating the best jazz the country has to offer. When we played in January with Get The Blessing the gig sold out and I reckon its going to be another busy one so make sure you get your tickets in early to avoid missing out!

Looking a little further ahead, we’re really pleased and honoured to have been included in a series of events at Kings Place during the London Jazz Festival in November. The festival website describes the series as ‘five massively talented groups and leaders – a meeting place for artists from the USA and Europe whose music stretches and probes the boundaries of jazz’ and there’s some stellar names involved… We’ll be playing on Saturday 19th November following gigs over the preceding few days by Nik Bartsch’s Ronin, Robert Glasper, Gretchen Parlato and Rory Simmons’ Fringe Magnetic and we can’t wait! Tickets are already on sale, so again get em while they’re hot…

Finally you may have seen on our various internet sites that we were nominated for the London Jazz Award as one of the outstanding gigs in the capital over the past year – we needed your facebook and twitter votes and you’ve done a sterling job so thanks very much! Although the award page may say that there’s not many facebook likes, thats just because facebook reindexes the Guardian article occasionally; we’re actually one of the most-liked bands on the shortlist, all thanks to you. Think there’s still time to vote though and every vote counts so it would be much appreciated if you could find the time to nip on over here or here (we’re at the bottom of the page) and click the facebook and twitter buttons. The prize is awarded on July 28th, we’ll let you know…

farewell ep cd

We’re really excited about having some new recordings out and available in the very near future, and as our EP was recorded almost two years ago now and is getting a little long in the tooth we thought it was time to retire it gracefully from sale… So as of the end of July the CD version of our EP will no longer be available to purchase online – we’ll bring the last few copies with us to Ronnie Scott’s on 3rd August but after that there won’t be any more CDs for sale anywhere! You’ll still be able to download the EP tracks but we’ll set a token minimum price, i.e. they’ll no longer be free to download. So head on over to our shop and get them while you still can!

efpi news

Its been a really exciting time for the wider world of Efpi Records too – we’ve confirmed some really cool gigs for the autumn that we can’t tell you about yet, and we’ve got music from two brand new groups that we are releasing in the next couple of weeks! Its neither the time nor the place in this email for exclusive Efpi announcements though, so keep an eye on our website for all the news as soon as it lands. If you’ve previously purchased or downloaded anything from our shop (or from any other Efpi artist via the label shop) you’ll also automatically be on the Efpi mailing list, but if you’ve joined the Beats & Pieces list via our website or by signing up at a gig and would like to stay in the loop with Efpi too you can join the label mailing list here. There’s also a brand new facebook page for the label – be our friend here.

And check out the HAQ album ‘Walking Walking Falling‘ if you haven’t already! The guys had a great review from the Jazz Mann a few weeks ago, he highly recommended it…
